Future Transit
Dubai Metro is one of the many projects in the city that aims to ease the use of public means of transportation. The metro line in Dubai already consists of the Green Line and the Red Line, which cover a wide radius of the city. Future Transit
Dubai Metro is based on a world-class mass transit system based on 64 stations. The transportation system spans over 84 square kilometres. However, according to the recently approved plan, the number of stations will be increased to 96 stations, covering 140 square kilometres by 2030.
The initiative to work on Dubai’s 32 new metro stations by 2030 is part of a 2040 Dubai metro development plan. This forthcoming extension plan aims to increase the number of stations to 140. Moreover, it is envisioned to cover 228 square kilometres by 2040. This development plan aligns with the vision and goals of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.
Future Transit
The holistic Dubai public transport extension plan aims to achieve other strategic urban development goals. Besides doubling Dubai’s number of Metro stations by 2040, the initiative aims to increase public transport share to 45%. This is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions by up to 16 tonnes per capita.
Such initiatives paired with Dubai Green Mobility Strategy hint at a sustainable and smart future for the emirate. An amount of AED 25 billion has been designated for the initiative for a period of over 10 years. As a result of such noteworthy developments, Dubai aims to attract AED 650 billion in investments by 2033.
